Congratulations Frank DeLaTorre
Niles has it's abundance of heroes who go above and beyond the call of duty to keep us safe from harm. Too often we remember our firefighters, police officers, etc. - but sometimes we forget those heroes who provide Emergency Medical Services everyday: our SMCAS EMS Responders. Frank DeLaTorre of Coloma is one of our every day heroes who has served our community for more than 25 years in the EMS field. Last week he was awarded the Stars of Life Award at the state capitol. The City of Niles is very proud of all of our Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service (SMCAS) EMS Responders. This week we recognize Frank DeLaTorre for the many years of service he has provided and we congratulate him on becoming a "Stars of Life" Award recipient.
For those who don't know, extensive professional training provides EMS personnel with the expertise to medically treat and sustain us until we arrive at a hospital where nurses and physicians will take over. They also provide assistance in others ways. For example, if you've "fallen and can't get up" they will come to assess your condition and then lift you to your feet again. For many seniors in our area that's a very important service. When a medical emergency threatens you, our SMCAS EMS Responders will be there to help.
